Our Programs
Comprehensive climate adaptation strategies designed for the unique challenges of the Gedo Zone

Climate-Smart Agriculture & Pastoralism
Transforming agricultural practices to build resilience against climate change while improving productivity and sustainability in the Gedo Zone.
Key Activities:
- Water-efficient irrigation systems including drip irrigation
- Introduction of drought-tolerant crops (sorghum, millet)
- Conservation agriculture training and demonstration farms
- Rotational grazing and silvopastoral systems
- Agricultural value chain support
Impact: 210.5 quintals produced in Season 1 across 10 hectares in Kansahley Village, Dolow District, generating USD 1,680 in household income. Season 2 is planned to reach 50 households.

Water Conservation & Infrastructure
Building critical water infrastructure to ensure year-round water access for communities, livestock, and agriculture in arid conditions.
Key Activities:
- Construction of berkads (water pans) and hafir dams
- Sustainable groundwater management
- GIS-based water resource mapping
- Community water distribution systems
- Water management training for communities
Impact: A gravity-fed drip irrigation system operating in Elbarde, Bakool Region, on zero fuel and zero electricity.

Reforestation & Energy Transition
Restoring degraded landscapes and promoting renewable energy to combat desertification and reduce carbon footprint.
Key Activities:
- Establishment of tree nurseries for indigenous species
- Multi-purpose tree species (fodder, shade, fruit)
- Community-led tree planting campaigns
- Solar-powered water pumps installation
- Renewable energy technology promotion
Impact: Seedling plantation and Greening Day campaigns underway in Dolow.
Gender & Social Inclusion (GESI)
Ensuring equitable participation and benefits for all community members, with special focus on women and marginalized groups.
Key Activities:
- 30% minimum women representation in governance
- Women’s Cooperatives managing tree nurseries
- 50% female participation in training programs
- Support for female-headed households
- Safe feedback and reporting mechanisms
Impact: Equal 10/10 female-headed and male-headed household participation achieved in Season 1 of the Dolow-Kansahley program.
Renewable Energy Solutions
Transitioning communities to clean, sustainable energy sources to reduce environmental impact and improve livelihoods.
Key Activities:
- Solar-powered irrigation pumps
- Household solar energy systems
- Energy-efficient cooking technologies
- Carbon footprint reduction initiatives
- Community energy training programs
Status: planned component, seeking partners.
Scientific Crop Research
Conducting controlled varietal trials to generate locally relevant evidence on crop performance and climate adaptation.
Key Activities:
- Controlled varietal trials (NARICA 14 rice, VENTALE 2 wheat, sunflower) at the Kansahley Irrigation Scheme, Dolow
- Field-based germination and growth monitoring
- Evidence-sharing with government agricultural authorities
- Soil and climate data collection to inform adaptive management
- Documentation of trial protocols and results for replication
Impact: All three trial varieties successfully germinated at Kansahley, confirmed 21 July 2026. Yield results expected November–December 2026.
Capacity Building & Training
Building community knowledge and skills to manage climate challenges and implement sustainable practices.
Key Activities:
- Climate-smart agriculture workshops
- Water resource management training
- Nursery management and agroforestry training
- Leadership capacity building
- GIS and remote sensing training
Impact: 100% training completion among Season 1 beneficiary households in climate-smart agriculture and irrigation management.
Our Integrated Approach
All our programs work together synergistically to create comprehensive climate resilience. Climate-smart agriculture is supported by reliable water infrastructure, enhanced by reforestation efforts, powered by renewable energy, guided by inclusive participation, and strengthened through continuous capacity building.
This integrated approach ensures that communities don’t just adapt to climate change—they thrive despite it. Our capacity in project implementation, combined with strong community partnerships and technical expertise, enables us to deliver measurable results that improve livelihoods and protect the environment.
Every program is community-driven, ensuring local ownership, cultural sensitivity, and long-term sustainability.
