Climate Crisis

Where We Work

HCG is Somalia-focused, with confirmed operations in Gedo Zone (Dolow District, Jubaland State) and an expanding field presence in Bakool Region (Elbarde District, South West State). Our model is designed to scale across climate-vulnerable communities in Somalia.

Across these areas, pastoral, agro-pastoral, and displacement-affected communities face recurrent drought, unpredictable rainfall, rangeland degradation, and water scarcity that erode livelihoods and increase displacement.

We work hand in hand with district administrations, line ministries, and community committees to deliver climate-smart agriculture, water security, rangeland restoration, and inclusive governance — anchored in local presence and evidence.

Recurrent drought cycles and rangeland degradation

Livestock stress and crop failure leading to food insecurity

Results Story

From Drought Response to Measurable Household Gains

In late 2025, El Niño-driven drought was deepening food insecurity across Gedo Zone. HCG partnered with the Dolow District Commissioner’s Office to distribute 103 kg of drought-tolerant seed across 10 varieties to 20 households in Kansahley Village. Season 1 produced 210.5 quintals of crops; 95.5 quintals were retained directly for household food consumption. Season 2 is planned to reach 50 households across 25 hectares, and a gravity-fed drip irrigation system, using no fuel and no electricity, has been set up in a second community, Elbarde.
