Water & Ecosystem Restoration
The Challenge
Reliable water access is the limiting factor for household production
Households in Dolow and Elbarde districts face recurrent drought cycles and degraded rangeland, with fuel and electricity for pumped irrigation largely unavailable or unaffordable at the household level.
Our Approach
Gravity, not fuel
HCG builds hand-dug wells feeding elevated storage tanks that gravity-feed drip irrigation lines directly to household plots — zero fuel, zero electricity. Alongside this, HCG has developed a detailed rangeland restoration methodology, built around customary (Xeer) land governance, and is seeking partners to fund its first implementation site.
What We Do
Gravity-Fed Drip Irrigation
Active
- Hand-dug well and 10,000-litre elevated storage tank
- Gravity-fed drip lines serving household plots
- No fuel or electricity required to operate
Rangeland Restoration
Technical design complete
- Land-selection criteria and water-harvesting structures
- Invasive-species control and rotational grazing plan
- Built around, not against, customary (Xeer) land governance
Where We Work
Elbarde District
Active
Bakool Region, South West State. Gravity-fed, zero-fuel drip irrigation system, operational since April 2026 under a cooperation agreement signed in March 2026.
